With Agartala facing acute fuel shortage in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Shah has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to expedite the resumption of good train services through Jatinga in Dima Hasao district of Assam, Wednesday. Said an official SAI.

Goods train services to Tripura were stopped after a fuel crisis occurred following the derailment of a goods train at Jatinga on 26 April. The state government has already banned the sale of petrol and diesel to deal with the situation.

"In view of the fuel shortage in the state, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday wrote to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, urging her to expedite the resumption of goods train services. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the situation and is hopeful That services will resume in the next two to three days,” the CMO official said.

State transport secretary UK Chakma said the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has sought time till May 10 to restart goods train services via Jatinga.

Nirmal Adhikari, Additional Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department, said that after the disruption in goods train services, oil tankers are supplying petrol and diesel to the state by road.

"We are able to procure only 40 per cent of the state's total daily requirement of fuel through oil tankers. Therefore, there will be fuel shortage until good train services resume," he said.
