Six people went missing after a boat capsized in river Ganga in Barh sub-division of Patna district on Sunday, officials said.

"The accident occurred near Umanath Ganga Ghat around 9.15 am when a boat carrying 17 people, mostly of the same family, capsized midway. The boat overturned and sank in the river Ganga. While so far 11 People have been rescued...some of them managed to swim to safety and reach the river bank, six are still missing,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Flood) Shubham Kumar told reporters.

The SDM said that after receiving the information, district administration officials and police personnel reached the spot and started a rescue operation with the help of local people to trace the missing people in the boat.

He said that a search operation is going on to trace the six missing people.

"We are also involving State Disaster Relief Force personnel. We are trying to ensure identification of the missing persons," the SDM said.
