According to the survey of the Water Resources Department, the water level of Ganga river has been continuously decreasing for the last four years.

The survey shows that last year the average water level of river Ganga in Bhagalpur was 27 meters, which has now reduced to 24.50 meters in 2024, which is decreasing further.

The survey shows that the water level of other rivers passing through Bihar like Ghaghra, Kamla Balan, Falgu, Durgavati, Kosi, Gandak and Budhi Gandak has also gone down significantly.

''The water level of Ganga is continuously going down. Ganga is in danger due to the construction work taking place on it. Many bridges are being built on the Ganga river, while construction work is also going on continuously on the banks of the Ganga,” said Guddu Baba, who had launched a program called Save Ganga Campaign.

He said that Marine Drive has also been constructed on the banks of river Ganga in Patna, while other constructions on its banks are also continuing unabated.

He said that the condition of other rivers of the state is also very bad because the silt in the rivers is continuously increasing.

Guddu Baba said, “736 metric tons of silt flows into the Ganga river annually.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has continuously asked the Modi government to help the state in cleaning the silt in the Ganga river.

It is expected that after Nitish Kumar supports the NDA government, the silt issue and other projects will get top priority from the central government.
