Kozhikode (Kerala), Union Minister Suresh Gopi on Wednesday said he has been given a big responsibility and the support of people from all walks of life has given him a new role as a member of the Narendra Modi-led government.

Gopi, who returned to Kerala for the first time after becoming the Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum, offered prayers at the Thali Mahadev Temple in Kozhikode city this morning.

Later speaking to reporters, the actor turned politician said that he has a lot of connections with the people and the temples and he has kept all these things in mind.

He said, “People from all walks of life supported me. I cannot deny all this.I have taken a responsibility. I have reached here with everyone's support."

Gopi said that only the public will keep him with them.

As India's Minister of State for Tourism, Gopi said he has a huge responsibility, and his duties will include identifying key locations in the country for tourist activities.

He said, at present the PM has talked to him only about Kerala.

Gopi refused to react on any political issue, including Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan's "ignorant" comment about a priest and Congress MP MK Raghavan's demand for an AIIMS in Kozhikode, saying she would not Not going to be a part of any discussion.Regarding the CM's ignorant comment, he said it was "his (Vijayan's) tongue, his thinking."

He said, "I am not questioning that. They (CM and Pujari) are from the same party. They will sort it out."

On Raghavan's demand for AIIMS, Gopi said that the Congress MP has every right to build it.

He said, “I also have some rights."I have explained my rights and wishes."

Gopi created history for the saffron party in Kerala by winning the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat for the BJP.

Thrissur saw a triangular contest for the Lok Sabha elections, with key candidates from Congress, BJP and CPI in a close contest.

Gopi had this time defeated UDF candidate, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan and Left leader and former Kerala minister Sunil Kumar of CPI in Thrissur and won the constituency.
