Khagaria/Araria/Madhepura: About 10.78 per cent of the more than 98 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the five Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar till 9 am on Tuesday, an election official said.

Voting on Araria, Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Madhepura and Khagaria seats began at 7 am amid tight security and will continue till 6 pm, he said.

Till 9 am, Supaul recorded the highest turnout of 11.41 per cent, followed by Arari (10.97), Madhepura (10.71), and Khagaria and Jhanjharpu at 10.41 per cent each.

The electoral fate of 54 candidates will be decided in the third phase of voting in Bihar.

Jhanjharpur has gone to the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), headed by former state minister Mukesh Sahni, who joined the grand alliance late and got three seats from the RJD's quota of 26, in a state where the total number is 40. .Khagaria is a seat where the contest is mainly between two debutants.
