Aurangabad (Bihar): A tractor carrying sand illegally crushed a constable in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Sunday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar (29), who was on duty to check illegal sand mining when the incident occurred around 4 am in Musepur Khaira village under Daudnagar police station limits.

Police said Kumar, a resident of Arrah in Bhojpur district, was taken to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead.

Aurangabad SP Swapna Gautam Meshram said, "The incident took place when Kumar saw a tractor carrying illegally mined sand. Kumar directed the driver to stop the vehicle, but he refused and hit the constable. And ran away leaving the tractor at the spot." ,

Meshram said that the tractor has been seized and its owner has been arrested.

"Police have identified the driver and a search operation has been launched to nab him," he said, stressing that all those involved in the incident would be caught soon.
