Speaking to reporters here, V. Somanna said, "Keeping in mind the further necessary measures to enhance the transport system in and around Bengaluru in the coming days, we have a blueprint for a circular rail network ready."

The circular railway network will be 10 km away from the suburban railway network currently being built.

It is a 287 km long railway project that passes through Vaddarhalli, Devanahalli, Malur, Hilalige, Hejjala, Solur and Nidagunda in the vicinity of Bengaluru, the Union Minister said, the detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared.

“This visionary step is in line with Bengaluru’s designation as a global city and aims to provide amenities to maintain the prestige of the city.

"The estimated expenditure of the project is Rs 23,000 crore. We will only seek land from the state government, and the expenditure will be borne by the central government. The project also aims to make a significant contribution to Bengaluru. The matter has been discussed with the authorities and Karnataka will benefit in this regard like other states,” V. Somanna said.

The minister further said that land (availability) will not be a problem because wherever a railway track is available, a new track will be built nearby.

"This is being done keeping in mind the growth of Bengaluru in the next 10 to 15 years. The population of Bengaluru, excluding surrounding villages, has now crossed 1.40 crore," he said.
