Kolkata: Four BJP women MLAs on Tuesday protested outside the West Bengal Assembly for the second consecutive day in protest against the attack on a couple in North Dinajpur district and alleged torture on a woman in Cooch Behar.

BJP's Asansol MLA Agnimitra Paul and three other MLAs protested, demanding punishment to those involved in both the incidents.

He told reporters that the BJP MLAs demonstrated outside the Assembly complex to make people aware of the fact that women in West Bengal are "not safe" under the Trinamool Congress rule.

"We are protesting outside the Assembly to tell people about the atrocities against women in West Bengal. Women are not safe at all in the state," said BJP state unit general secretary.

A purported video of an attack on a couple in Chopra in North Dinajpur district over alleged illicit relations had gone viral on Sunday.

However, the authenticity of the video could not be independently confirmed.

The accused Tajmul alias JCB was arrested after the police took suo motu cognizance and registered an FIR.

BJP alleges that accused Chopra is close to MLA Hamidul Islam.

Condemning the incident, TMC had said that the party does not support such activities.

A BJP woman leader was allegedly stripped and tortured on June 25 in Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar district.
