To promote the 'Make in India' initiative as well as increase exports from the country to the world, companies like Apple are strengthening their supply chains, thereby creating millions of jobs.

He said Apple is moving towards strengthening the ecosystem by creating a network for local vendors.

"India is fast becoming an important player in the global electronics and semiconductor value chain," the minister said.

Continued emphasis on local manufacturing will ensure that India overtakes China in most electronics exports faster than expected.

Apple recorded strong double-digit growth in India in the March quarter this year.

According to industry experts, the country will likely become the tech giant's third-largest market in the next two to three years.

The iPhone maker expects over 20 percent growth in the country this year.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple shipped about 10 million iPhones in the country last year.

The Tim Cook-led company is set to manufacture over 50 million iPhones in India in the coming years.
