Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to submit its study report on the disputed issue of Dhar's Bhojshala complex by July 15 .

For Hindus, the Bhojshala Complex is a temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati), while for Muslims it is the site of the Kamal Maula Mosque. Under a 2003 agreement, Hindus perform puja at the complex on Tuesdays from sunrise to sunset, while Muslims offer namaz on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

ASI began the survey at the Bhojshala/Kamal Maula mosque complex, situated in the tribal-dominated Dhar district, on March 22, following the order of the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

In the March 11 order, the Indore bench of the MP High Court had directed the ASI to constitute an expert committee which will "complete the scientific investigation, survey and excavation, by adopting latest methods and techniques " and will present the report within six weeks. .

During the next hearing on the matter on April 29, the ASI sought more time for the survey. Furthermore, the court granted ASI a period of eight weeks from April 29 to conduct the survey.

The court also made it clear that no further extension should be granted to comply with the March 11 order.

The court had directed the ASI team to submit the complete comprehensive report by July 2, 2024. The next hearing in the matter was scheduled for today, July 4.

During Thursday's hearing, the ASI sought more time of four weeks to submit the report, but the court ordered them to submit it by July 15.

The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for July 22.

Hindu side's lawyer Shreesh Dubey told ANI: "A hearing in connection with Dhar's Bhojshala matter was scheduled for today before the Indore division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. In early April, the court ordered ASI to submit its survey report by July 2, in which ASI requested an additional period of four weeks."

“During the hearing on Thursday, the court directed ASI to submit the report by July 15 and the next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 22. This apart, the ASI asked the court to submit the report by a sealed envelope and the "The court shall hand over the report to the interested parties, upon which the court ordered that all interested parties should note that they should not comment on the report, the court will issue its verdict on the report" Dubey said.
