New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla slammed Congress member Deepender Hooda over some comments Shashi Tharoor made on 'Jai Hind, Jai Constitution' slogan after taking oath as a member of the House.

When opposition members raised slogans of 'Jai Constitution' when Tharoor took oath as a Lok Sabha member, Birla remarked, "He is already taking oath on the Constitution."

On this occasion, Hooda, member from Rohtak, said that the Speaker should not raise any objection on this.

Addressing Hooda, the Speaker said, "Don't give me any advice about what I should or should not object to. Take your seat."

Reacting to the development, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wondered if no one can say 'Jai Constitution' in Parliament.

"When people from the ruling party raised unparliamentary and unconstitutional slogans in Parliament, they were not stopped, but when opposition MPs raised 'Jai Constitution' slogans, they were objected to," he said in a post on Twitter.

Priyanka Gandhi said, "The anti-constitutional sentiment that emerged during the elections has now taken a new form, which wants to weaken our Constitution."

"The Constitution on the basis of which the Parliament runs, the Constitution on the basis of which every member takes oath, which provides security to life and livelihood, will that Constitution be opposed to suppress the voice of the opposition?" Congress General Secretary. asked.
