Khatoon told media persons that there had been earlier attempts to murder her slain husband. “Local police were informed. Instead, he was repeatedly called to the local police station on the insistence of the local block president of the ruling party. I don't know why my husband was murdered. The police should find the killers. I demand a CID inquiry into this matter,” said Mr.

He also rejected the allegation of local Trinamool Congress MLA from Ketugram Sheikh Shahnawaz that CPI(M) workers were behind the murder.

“This cannot be the work of any opposition party. Other parties do not exist in Ketugram. There is no other party...it is only the ruling party here,” he said.

The local police has started investigating the matter.

Police have arrested two people in the case. They have been identified as Bhulan Shaikh and Samsoor Shaikh.

Bhulan Shaikh is a civilian volunteer attached to the local police station.

The district police has informed the CEO office about the matter.

Mintu Shaikh is the first victim of election-related violence since the Lok Sabha elections began last month.
