SP has fielded candidates belonging to OBC caste groups like Kurmi, Nishad Rajbhar, Bind and Kushwaha on key seats.

The idea is apparently to bring other backward castes closer to the Yadavs as a consolidated vote base.

For example, Samajwadi Party has fielded Pappu Nishad from Santakbinagar. On this seat, he is competing with BJP candidate Parveen Nishad, who is the son of Nishad Party President Sanjay Nishad.

SP has chosen experienced Kurmi Ram Prasad Choudhary to challenge the sitting MP Harish Dwivedi in Basti. Dwivedi had defeated Chaudhary in the 2019 elections. This time BSP has made Daya Shankar Mishra its candidate.

Former BSP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha is the SP candidate in Jaunpur.His competition was against BJP's Kripashankar Singh. Singh is a former minister of Maharashtra government. BSP has fielded Srikala Reddy Singh, wife of mafia don and former MP Dhananjay Singh.

In Salempur, the Samajwadi Party has fielded Rama Shankar Rajbhar, who commands influence among his Rajbhar community, while the BJP has repeated its incumbent M Ravindra Kushwaha.

The Samajwadi candidate in Mirzapur is Rajendra Bind who is from the Nadi community. Mirzapur seat is with ally BJP

Samajwadi Party candidate in Maharajganj is Narendra Chaudhary who belongs to the Kurmi community.

SP has fielded another OBC Pintu Sainthwar from Kushinagar, while it has fielded Kurmi leader Lalji Verma from Ambedkar Nagar.SP has also declared Kurmi candidate from Pratapgarh.

A party spokesperson said, "Yes, we have made a conscious effort to give more representation to non-Yadav OBCs this time and it is a part of our PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority formula)."

This time there are only five Yadavs in the SP list.
, Dharmendra Yadav, from Azamgarh, Dimple Yadav, from Mainpuri, Aksha Yadav, from Firozabad and Aditya Yadav, from Badaun. It is another matter that all of them belong to the same family.
