Bhubaneswar, Odisha government has appointed Arabinda Kumar Padhi as the new Chief Administrator of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), replacing senior IAS officer VV Yadav.

Sub-section 19 of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1954 was invoked to give effect to the appointment in a notification issued late Thursday night by the Law Department.

It said, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section 19 of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1954, the State Government appoints Arabinda Kumar Padhi, IAS, as Chief Administrator of SJTA, Puri in addition to his present duties " In place of VV Yadav, IAS, for the time being and till further orders.

The decision to replace Yadav as SJTA chief administrator was taken following criticism over his absence during the incident where the idol of Lord Balabhadra fell during the Rath Yatra festival, injuring 12 servants.

Padhi, who currently serves as the Principal Secretary of the Departments of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment and Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts, has prior experience as the former Chief Administrator of the SJTA, giving him familiarity with the management of the affairs of the Jagannath temple.
