New Delhi, Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has partnered with Hydrogens Association of India (HAI) to promote bio-based energy solutions with special emphasis on green and blue hydrogen.

Speaking to IBA, IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia said, “IBA and HAI have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of promoting the production of green energy within the country.”

This strategic alliance will facilitate comprehensive measures including training, capacity building and policy advocacy to promote and advance bio-based energy solutions with a special focus on green and blue hydrogen.

Kedia informed that the green hydrogen market in India is estimated to reach US$ 8 billion by 2030 and US$ 340 billion by 2050.

With the common objective of reducing the country's dependence on imported energy sources, the MoU reflects the commitment of joint efforts in pursuing sustainable energy initiatives. The agreement focuses on harnessing the synergy of both consortia to catalyze the continued growth of the growing bio-based energy sector.

While the Indian Biogas Association is dedicated to advancing the biogas industry, the Hydrogen Association of India is committed to providing comprehensive services and finding optimal solutions for key stakeholders spanning diverse industries in the hydrogen sector.

The partnership could also provide an additional boost to blue hydrogen, which its launch suggests will build on ongoing government efforts around the world to impose more stringent regulations to promote the adoption of emission-free fuel sources. Poised to increase to 80 million metric tons by 2050. Kedia said.

“The discussion surrounding the use of hydrogen within the steel industry has attracted significant attention. However, it is important to note that carbs remain indispensable in this process.

“By breaking down the methane molecules contained within biogas, we can produce both carbon and hydrogen simultaneously, offering a viable solution to meet this need,” he said.

RK Malhotra, President of HAI, stressed the importance of policy advocacy for bio-hydrogen and biogas ecosystem.

He said this collaborative approach aims to leverage government initiatives within the sector and empower the industry to achieve India's green energy goals which ultimately support the sustainable development of the country.
