Waris Punjab activist Amritpal Singh, lodged in Dibrugarh jail, was flown to New Delhi on Friday morning by a special flight for his swearing-in as MP, an official said.

Singh, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib constituency, has been granted four-day parole for taking oath, he said.

Amid tight security, he was taken to the airport in the early hours from Dibrugarh Central Jail, where he has been lodged since April last year.

An eight-member team of Punjab Police reached here on Thursday to take Singh to New Delhi. The official said that a team of Assam Police and district administration accompanied him from the jail to the airport.

Singh's parole orders are strict, preventing him or his relatives from making public statements during their visit to New Delhi. Furthermore, media coverage of any kind, including videography or dissemination of statements, is strictly prohibited.

Furthermore, Singh has been directed not to indulge in any activity that may compromise national security.

His parents Tarsem Singh and Balwinder Kaur and his wife Kirandeep Kaur had met the jailed activist after his victory in the Lok Sabha elections last month. Amritpal won the Khadur Sahib seat by 1.97 lakh votes as an independent candidate, defeating Congress's Kulbir Singh Zira.

Ten members of the organization including Amritpal and one of his uncles have been in jail for over a year after they were arrested under the National Security Act from different parts of Punjab following a crackdown.
