New Delhi: Experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shocked Delhi Capitals in his consecutive overs but fast bowler Avesh Khan gave away runs as the hosts posted 221 for eight against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Tuesday. Scored runs. ,

Had it not been for some smart bowling by Ashwin and fellow off-spinner Ryan Parra in the middle overs, DC would have put more runs on the board.

Young Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk (50 runs off 20 balls) continued his good form, while Abhishek Porel contributed 65 runs off 36 balls. Tristan Stubb played a useful inning of 41 runs in 20 balls but captain Rishabh Pant (15) did not bat much.

Royals fast bowlers Trent Boult and Sandeep Singh came with a hit-the-deck approach and were largely successful in not allowing the home openers to swing freely.

The early boundaries were largely well-timed drives and lofted shots into th 'V' space.Fraser-McGurk became restless and started throwing his bat here and there. Australia gradually regained its rhythm and came down hard on Avesh, who scored 28 runs with the help of four fours and two sixes in the fourth over of the innings and completed his half-century in just 19 balls.

As luck would have it, Fraser-McGurk was out easily when he hit Ashwin's full toss straight to cover fielder Donovan Ferreira. Shai Hope departed soon after in an unfortunate manner. Porel hit it straight to Sandeep, the ball touched the bowler's hand before hitting the stumps and had the West Indies caught outside the crease.Yuzvendra Chahal (1/48 in 4 overs) started with a bit of full length and Porel hit him for a six. However, Parag did a great job with his off-spin and he managed to keep the batsmen quiet.

Ashwin made a comeback and got rid of Axar Patel, who had hit Parag for a maximum.

Porel, however, remained strong and completed his half-century while Avesh continued to score runs. He gave 42 runs in his two overs.

RR captain Sanju Samson handed the ball to Ashwin and he sent back Porel this time with a back of length ball, which the southpaw could not connect well. The home captain did not do anything special and lost his wicket by hitting a sweep shot off Chahal's ball. DC scored 65 runs in the last five overs.
