Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairman Priyank Kanungo on Monday inspected an illegally run unmapped madrassa in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. "Today, illegal and unmapped madrassas were inspected in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Children from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been brought to Madrassa Wali Ullah Dehlvi and Madrassa Darul Uloom. There is a severe lack of basic facilities to accommodate the children. Where they sleep, where they eat and where they receive religious education, where people also come to pray, therefore, the daily routine of eating and sleeping for children is irregular,'' he said in a post on X. "No child is being sent to school; only the children of local Maulvis/Mullahs go to regular schools," he said in the post. ''Education Department officials are unaware of the existence of these madrassas and are issuing notices to the State Governments for necessary action.'' The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) emphasizes the principle of universality and inviolability of child rights and Recognizes a tone of urgency in all child-related policies of the country. For the Commission, the safety of all children in the age group of 0 to 18 years has equal importance. Thus, policies define priority actions for the most vulnerable children. This includes focusing on areas that are backward or in certain circumstances communities with children, etc.," according to the NCPCR.
