US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press conference said: "Prime Minister Modi, like Prime Minister Orban, recently met with President Zelenskyy, and we consider this to be an important step. We encourage India, along with other nations interacting with Russia, "Ensure that any resolution to the Ukraine conflict adheres to the United Nations Charter and respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine."

"India is a strategic partner with whom we engage in open and honest discussions, including our concerns about its ties with Russia," he said.

Miller also said the United States welcomes those engaging with Russia over the war in Ukraine if they make it clear that it needs to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Miller said he looked forward to Prime Minister Modi's public statements on his meetings with the Russian President: "I'll be watching to see what he talked about, but as I said, we made very clear directly to India our concerns about its relationship with Russia. And "That is why we hope that India and any other country, when engaging with Russia, will make it clear that Russia must respect the UN Charter, must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
