Australian police have arrested two brothers of Indian origin, wanted in the murder of a 22-year-old M.Tech student from Melbourne, India. Said in media reports.

Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Garton, 27, were arrested in the south Wales city of Goulburn on Tuesday, with police preparing to extradite them to Victoria, the Goulburn Post reports.

The brothers had been on the run since Sunday morning after Navji Sandhu, of Noble Park, was murdered and a 30-year-old man from Noble Park was injured at an Ormond home in Melbourne's south-east.

Police on Thursday charged Garten with murder and attempted murder, while Abhijeet was charged with assault, the report said.He faced Goulburn Local Court on Thursday morning where extradition to Victoria was granted.

Both brothers are due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the house in North Road at around 1am after reports of a dispute.

According to Yashveer, the uncle of the deceased victim in Karnal, Haryana, Navjeet was fatally attacked with a knife by another student when he tried to intervene in a dispute over the rent issue between some Indian students.

“Navjeet's friend (another Indian student) had asked him to go with him to his house to collect his luggage as he had a car.When his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some screams and saw that there was a scuffle going on. When Navjeet tried to intervene, Yashveer said, "He refused to fight, so he was fatally stabbed in the chest."

He said that like Navjeet, the alleged accused is also a resident of Karnal.

The uncle of the deceased said that Navjeet's friend, with whom he was, was also injured in the incident.

The injured man is married to the woman, while the deceased was his friend.A weapon was found at the home and will be forensically examined.

On Monday, Detective Inspector Dean Thomas told media that police believed the brothers lived at the Ormond home, where a party was held on Sunday, News.com.a reports.
