At least five suspected drug smugglers were arrested in Guwahati, Assam and heroin seized from their possession, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.

“In two separate anti-narcotics operations conducted yesterday, a large quantity of heroin was seized. This will save our youth from the clutches of drugs,” Sarma wrote on X.

He said that one operation was carried out in Karbi Anglong, while the other operation was jointly carried out by Golaghat Police and CRPF.

The CM said Karbi Anglong police recovered 554.66 grams of heroin and arrested two smugglers, while Golaghat police and CRPF caught three suspects and seized 505.05 grams of heroin.

Sharing details of the operation on X, Golaghat police said that the gang was busted in Changkhati of Merapani area.
