Police in Assam's Cachar on Thursday launched a special operation along the Assam-Mizoram border at Dholikhal and arrested drug smuggler Abdul Ahat Laskar (33) and recovered 1.7 kg of heroin worth Rs 8.5 crore, an official said.
The drugs contained in 139 soap boxes were brought from Champhai district of Mizoram, bordering Myanmar.
In Mizoram, Assam Rifles seized heroin worth Rs 17.50 lakh and foreign origin beer worth Rs 9.34 lakh from two different locations on the India-Myanmar border and arrested one person in connection with the case.
Officials said the heroin and beer were smuggled from Myanmar.
