CHENNAI: BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of her party's late Tamil Nadu president K Armstrong, who was murdered here on Friday.

He claimed that those arrested so far are not the real culprits and urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to hand over the investigation to a central agency to ensure justice to the victim.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati paid tribute to Armstrong here and laid a wreath before the mortal remains of the 52-year-old leader at a private school in Perambur in the city.

Expressing grief over Armstrong's death, he also said that the manner in which he was killed by a group of assailants late in the evening showed that "there is no such thing as law and order" in the state.

CM Stalin should ensure justice for Armstrong and transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

He said, "The way he was murdered shows that there is no law and order in Tamil Nadu. The people who murdered him, the real culprits, have not been caught."

"The real culprits have not been caught. Transfer the investigation to the CBI. We do not expect the state government to ensure justice. Therefore, immediately send the case to the CBI," he demanded.

The BSP leader further said that Dalits across the state are scared after Armstrong's murder and urged the CM to ensure their safety.

He said that BSP has taken the matter seriously, but party workers should not take law and order into their own hands.
