Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday blamed the opposition's "BJP will change the Constitution" propaganda for the defeat of NDA candidates on several seats.

Virtually accepting defeat, Fadnavis said he would introspect and recover the loss in the upcoming assembly elections.

"The unfortunate outcome of the results is that the opposition tried to win seats through its propaganda that we will change the Constitution. But in the elections, the people's mandate will have to be accepted as it is. We will do a deep introspection and present our stand.Your improvements. Defeat in the next assembly elections,” Fadnavis tweeted on Twitter.

However, the senior BJP leader said that people have strongly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the elections.

Of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, the ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, has won six of the 10 seats declared so far. She was leading in 17 other constituencies.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has won four seats and is leading in 27 other seats. The BJP has so far emerged victorious in Palghar, Satara and Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituencies and is leading in 10 constituencies.

"We lost some seats in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. We expected better results in West Bengal. If that had happened, BJP alone would have won 310 seats," Fadnavis said.

He claimed that the number of seats won by the BJP is more than the seats won by the Indian alliance combined. He congratulated the party workers for giving victory to Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh and BJP workers in Odisha.

Fadnavis said, "Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister for the third time because the voters have supported him."

Notably, the BJP won 23 of the 25 seats it contested in the 2019 general elections and its former ally Shiv Sena (undivided) won 18 constituencies.
