- Shri Shantadurga Kunkallikarin Zatra: Devotion and celebration! 🙏🎉
The Shri Shantadurga Kunkalikarin Temple, situated in Fatorpa of Quepem Taluka, is one of the oldest temples in Goa and a popular tourist attraction. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Shri Shantadurga, who was originally from Cuncolim village in Salcete Taluka. In the 16th century, during the religious persecution by the Portuguese, the Goddess was relocated to Fatorpa. The temple was reconstructed during the reign of Maratha ruler Chatrapati Shahu, after it was previously destroyed by the Portuguese invasion. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the temple complex is located at the foothills of a mountain chain. The entrance of the temple, known as Mahadwar, features a grand doorway. The main dome of the temple is adorned with a large gold plated kalash, showcasing intricate designs. Inside the garbhagraha, there are two statues of Shree Shantadurga - one in a sitting position and the other in a standing position. Both statues are considered as the Darshanamurti, allowing devotees to have daily darshan. These statues are crafted from a combination of five metals and the Goddess is depicted standing on a patt, holding a trishul, sudarshan chakra, and an arrow in her hands. The temple hosts an annual 'Zatra' during the month of Pausha Shuddha Navami, attracting thousands of devotees and tourists from around the world. To accommodate visitors, there are guest houses or agrashalas within the temple compound. Every year, numerous visitors come to experience the divine aura of the Shantadurga temple.
