- Kandhar Sasthi Pooja at Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple, Tiruchendur.
The Kandhar Sasthti Thiruvizha is a significant event celebrated at the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur, Thooththukudi district. This temple is one of the "Aru Padai Veedu" (six abodes) of Lord Murugan, with Lord Murugan being the presiding deity. Special poojas and homams are organized every month on the occasion of "Kandhar Sashti". The Sashti days fall twice a month on the sixth day of the lunar phase, known as "Ammavasai" (no moon day) and "Pournami" (full moon day). Devotees observe strict discipline and fasting during these days to offer prayers. It is believed that reading Kandhar Sashti Kavasam on Tuesdays, considered auspicious for Lord Murugan, brings prosperity and happiness. The temple also hosts a unique celebration during "Soorasamharam" to honor the glory of Lord Murugan as depicted in Hindu scriptures. Thousands of devotees gather at the temple to celebrate the triumph of good over evil during this festival.
